Saudi fintech is moving in sync
How Money20/20 Middle East is accelerating alignment across regulators, banks, and builders
Inside KAFD and the ecosystem forming around Saudi fintech.
The fastest-growing fintech ecosystems are built on infrastructure – and Riyadh is building that infrastructure deliberately.
Most fintech hubs emerge over time: startups appear, capital follows, regulators adapt. Riyadh is experimenting with a different sequence – building the policy, capital and physical infrastructure together.
And King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) sits at the heart of it all.
Saudi Arabia’s fintech ecosystem is expanding at remarkable speed.
The number of fintech companies in the Kingdom has grown from 82 firms in 2022 to around 281 by August 2025, according to the Saudi Central Bank.
That expansion has already pushed the sector beyond its mid-decade policy targets.
If you take a wider view, the momentum is even clearer. Saudi Arabia’s fintech market is forecast to reach about USD $3.23 billion in 2026, with strong double-digit growth expected through the decade.
All of this growth needs somewhere to cluster.
Enter KAFD – a purpose-built financial district designed to concentrate financial institutions, global firms and technology companies in a single ecosystem. The district forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader effort to position Riyadh as a regional financial and fintech hub under Vision 2030.
For founders, investors and banks, the effect is simple: proximity.
And proximity accelerates ecosystems.

Yasmin Khowaiter (founder and host of The Majlis Podcast): “Saudi Arabia did not appear on the global map overnight… Our previous leaders have laid the groundwork for the change happening today.” (source: this interview with LEAP)
